NYC flight delays and weather, 2023–2025

• Window: January 1, 2023 through July 31, 2025. Flight dates use America/New_York local time. Timestamps use UTC.
• Grain: one scheduled departure identified by date, carrier, flight number, origin, destination and scheduled local departure time.
• Cadence: monthly BTS exports, averaging 34,093 departures per month. The verified historical version is pinned.
• Scope: John F. Kennedy International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport and LaGuardia Airport. International flights and nonreporting operators are excluded.
• Validation: all four checks pass. All 31 monthly totals match the source exports, with zero duplicate flight keys.
• Weather matches 99.96% of flights. No matched observation is after the cutoff or more than three hours old.
• Airport metadata is current, not historical. Weather observation timestamps do not establish when reports became available.

• flight_date: scheduled local departure date.
• carrier, flight_number: reporting carrier code and flight identifier.
• origin, destination: IATA airport codes.
• scheduled_departure_hhmm: scheduled local clock time, HHMM.
• departure_hour, month, day_of_week: local calendar features. Weekdays run Monday 1 through Sunday 7.
• scheduled_elapsed_minutes: scheduled flight duration in minutes.
• distance_miles: nonstop flight distance in miles.
• departure_delay_minutes, arrival_delay_minutes: signed observed delays in minutes. Negative values mean early.
• departure_delayed_15, arrival_delayed_15: observed delay of at least 15 minutes.
• cancelled, diverted: observed cancellation and diversion flags.
• scheduled_departure_utc, feature_cutoff_utc: scheduled departure and one-hour-earlier cutoff in UTC.
• origin_name, destination_name: airport names.
• origin_latitude, origin_longitude, destination_latitude, destination_longitude: airport coordinates in decimal degrees.
• weather_station: NOAA USAF and WBAN identifier.
• weather_observed_utc: latest routine observation at or before the cutoff, at most three hours old.
• weather_age_minutes: observation age at the cutoff in minutes.
• temperature_c, dewpoint_c: quality-accepted temperature and dewpoint in Celsius.
• wind_speed_mps: quality-accepted wind speed in metres per second.
• visibility_m, ceiling_m: quality-accepted visibility and cloud ceiling in metres.

Weather is unmatched on 384 flights. Destination names are missing on 42,645 flights. Missing outcomes, rejected quality flags and unmatched metadata remain null. Ambiguous daylight-saving times retain null UTC values. Missing delay never means on time.
